Canine Body Language – Happy Dogs

Dogs tell us many things with their body language. We are starting a blog series and will look at what dogs are communicating as we look at their body language.

You should be able to look at your dog’s body language and tell how s/he is feeling.  Dogs so often are signaling to us that they are stressed or uncomfortable and we don’t know what to look for.  Sometimes a dog has been stressed and then reacts with a growl or a bite and you don’t know it is coming.  We hear all the time that the behavior came out of the blue.  When, all the time, the dog was communicating discomfort and the owner did not know what to look for.

Let’s start with how you can tell if your dog is happy.  Here are happy dogs……soft, squinty eyes, relaxed faces, tongues out. They have loose, relaxed, wiggly  bodies and loosely wagging tails, not stiff and tight.  They look relaxed and happy.
